Clare is a journalist/broadcaster and has spent 20 years working with the BBC and the independent sectors. She has a strong and respected consumer background. Her work as Channel 4 News' consumer reporter made newspaper headlines and prompted a company to alter its misleading advertising strategy. She's hosted Radio 4's consumer programme, You and Yours, has worked with BBC Watchdog, was personal finance reporter on Channel 5 News, ITV Wish You Were Here's 'stand up for your rights,' producer/reporter and GMTV's consumer 'champion.'
Currently, she hosts podcasts on personal finance for Guardian online, is part of a blog group campaigning on behalf of the old and vulnerable, and, on the quiet has built some great relationships with older people who find themselves stuck in hospital. She always learns more from them than the other way round. Patients/nurses keep asking her back because she makes them laugh.
In addition, she has a strong television news and political background, working for Channel 4 and BBC Breakfast News in this context. Other radio roles have included BBC Five Live, LBC and BBC London. She has an MA in mental health/pastoral care, and has written two books in this area. She's now a regular on Radio 2's Pause for Thought, and contributes to BBC World Have Your Say, Radio 4's Beyond Belief and the Sunday Programme. "Very useful to have 'real' journalists running the course. A definite bonus and it made the course very credible.”
